De acuerdo con las declaraciones del juicio, los niños fueron asesinados en su casa después que Diego la visitó para intentar dialogar para reanudar su relación. Ambos se habían conocido en la fiesta de 15 años de una amiga mutua, mientras Diego estudiaba Ingeniería y había incursionado en la conducción televisiva.
